Hello League,
Â
Wanted to send out some last-minute reminders about the playoff madness that will strike tomorrow evening. Before I get into all that let me first thank everyone for their spirit, dedication, and sportsmanship this year. It's been a pleasure to serve y'all this season and I am positive that the next couple of weeks will be a blast.
Â
Perhaps the most important thing to remember this weekend is that time is of the essence. With a packed schedule throughout the evening, it is extremely important that the 5pm games get started on time and that games are played as quickly as possible. Because some players and referees have to travel in between games and half of the 6:30 games are being played on fields without lights, quick play will allow these games to start on time and keep a lack of daylight from being an issue.
Â
Also, I have been in contact with all (well, most) of the captains about their referee assignments for this weekend. Please avoid getting too wrapped up in your upcoming-or-recently-finished-competitions and forget about your reffing duties. As referees, you will have a lot to due with getting games started and finished on time. Also, bring an additional high-quality ref with you--the more trained eyes the better.
Â
Equipment pick-up and drop-off will obviously be a bit different this week. For pick-up, the top team in the bracket (the home team, the team with a better seed) will be responsible for picking up the equipment by 4:30. For drop-off, the losing team of the final game at that site (6:30 game on grass fields, 8:00 game on dirt fields except Hobbs) shall return the equipment to the shed.
Â
I have a couple of quick rule reminders/clarifications for the tourney as well. First, remember that if your team is going to use all 12 of the line-up spots, at least 4 of those spots must be filled exclusively with ladies. Please make sure that you and your opponents are abiding by this rule. Also, a slight change to the run-rule will be in effect for the playoffs: a game should be considered over if team is losing by 15 or more runs after 7 or more full innings or 1hour 20 minutes after the scheduled start time (this will help make sure that other games stay on schedule). Finally, a team may inact the emergency play act in the playoffs to finish a game in the event of injury only (it may not be used at the beginning of a game). Finally, the use of ineligable players will result in forfiet.
Â
I guess that's about it. I know that teams' livelihoods will be on the line, but I will once again ask that everyone be respectful out there and focus on fun. Really, isn't that what it's all about?
Â
Best of Luck,
Phil
