We are currently in a holding pattern regarding use of the venerable and beloved South Park.  Due to the park's current condition, we ask that all KVKL folk NOT USE THE PARK (FIELD) FOR ANY KICKBALL RELATED ACTIVITY.  Further deterioration would make the field virtually useless for us in the near future.  It also potentially places the KVKL at odds with the City of Lawrence.  This is a problem with few easy solutions. We apologize for any inconvenience.  Â
Here are some announcements regarding the coming season:
Twenty seven of twenty eight teams return from last year. Â We believe this helps with league continuity and other community centric aspects of the KVKL. Â Thank you and welcome back!Â
New team registration ends April 1st. Â Three new teams will be selected on April 14th (pushing the total to 30 teams) and notified shortly thereafter. Â We will have six divisions of five teams also to be announced around that time.
The captain's meeting will be April 21st @ 6:00 p.m. Â Please make arrangements with me if you are unable to attend. Â Location is to be determined. Â We will try and keep the meeting near downtown.
The officiating clinic will occur on April 26th at the Douglas County Fairground fields (just east of Harper on 19th Street) beginning around 5:00 p.m. Â All interested parties should attend. Â
It is strongly encouraged that all new teams attend. Â A personal note, I believe officiating is the single most contentious issue within our league. Â Please come watch, learn, and contribute to the discussion in making us all better referees. Â Following the clinic, we will indulge in some scrimmaging.
A preseason tournament will be held on May 3rd and May 10th at undetermined times/locations. Â Teams are not required to participate. Â The number of interested teams will determine the when and where. Â There is no extra cost to play. Â Please let us know if your team is interested.
The 1st games of the season will be May 31st, the weekend after Memorial Day.
The kballs are again 1 for $10, 2 for $15, and 3 for $20. Â We will have them for sale at the captain's meeting. Â If you want kballs now, please contact me. Â 2007 KVKL tshirts are available at Cottin's Hardware.
You have been duly notified. Â Let the fun commence.
