As we get into the hottest part of the season, it's always good to remember that we are playing through some brutal temperatures. If you're not taking care of yourself, this weather is potentially dangerous. Please, please, please make sure you're drinking plenty of water. To my knowledge, there were no cases of heat-related illness last week. Just in case, though, I thought I'd post a few symptoms and treatments.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, headache, muscle cramps and dizziness. If you are experiencing any of these, you are at risk for heatstroke. Please remove yourself from the game, get out of the sun, and sip cool water. Heat exhaustion can lead to heatstroke, which can be deadly, so please don't take these symptoms lightly.
Symptoms of heatstroke include high body temperature, absence of sweating with red skin, rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, hallucinations, confusion, and disorientation. If a person shows signs of shock, has a seizure, or loses consciousness, call 911 immediately.
A good sign you're drinking enough water is when your pee is clear and copious, so make that your team motto for this week! Have fun out there, but be mindful of these cruel weather conditions as well.
Thanks all,
Geoff
